Even as hot as the Nebraska Cornhuskers have been in June on the recruiting trail, Matt Rhule can’t win them all. Mere hours after scoring his 11th commitment of the month, he and the Huskers finally got handed a recruiting loss in the form of Kansas City offensive lineman Kyler Kuhn. The 4-star prospect announced on Monday morning he’d committed to the Missouri Tigers, staying close to home.
Kuhn is the third player to commit to Mizzou in the past two days, taking the Tigers’ 2027 class to 17 total verbal commitments. That would be impressive if it wasn’t put up against the run NU went on since June kicked off. Before the Tigers scored their offensive lineman, the Huskers scored theirs with in-state commit Barrett Kitrell.
Kuhn is listed at 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds and likely will be an interior offensive lineman at the collegiate level. He has won back-to-back MSHSAA Class 3 wrestling titles at 285 pounds. The offensive lineman visited Mizzou in May. He also took visits to Iowa, Nebraska, and Penn State in recent weeks. There were some rumblings that the Huskers had overtaken Missouri in the last few days, but it appears staying in-state won out in the end.
In the recruiting service 247Sports’ composite rankings, Kuhn is ranked as the No. 221 player nationally and the No. 10 interior offensive lineman in his class. He is rated the No. 5 player in Missouri in this cycle, meaning Mizzou has secured commitments from three of the top five players within the state.

Kyler Kuhn commitment gives Missouri recruiting win over Nebraska football
At least part of the reason he decided to attend the SEC school could be as simple as wanting to join the same program as his brother. Ashton Kuhn is a student at the University of Missouri. Kyler expects to enroll in January and carries a very impressive GPA as a true student-athlete.
The recruiting loss to Missouri is a bummer for Nebraska, if only because Matt Rhule and his staff seemed to turn every player they pursued with any degree of focus into a commitment. Kuhn is also a plenty talented player who would have greatly aided its 2027 recruiting push to try and get solidly inside the Top 15 classes in the country and within shouting distance of the Top 10.
Offensive line coach Geep Wade has been especially effective, as once again demonstrated by Kitrell’s commitment on Monday. Nebraska still has 21 commitments and could be rolling towards wrapping up the class with a few more pledges, well ahead of the December signing day.
