Nebraska is on such a recruiting hot streak that the Huskers are now even going after players they thought had ruled them out. That approach seems to be working, given recent reports that former Penn State commit Khalil Taylor plans to visit Lincoln for an official visit before making his commitment.
The 4-star receiver out of Pennsylvania has changed up his visit schedule before eventually giving his final pledge. The Huskers will now, in fact, get the final visit this weekend. Tim Verghese of Rivals was the first to report that it looks like Matt Rhule and Co. have managed to get back into a fight that they seemed to be out of. Earlier this spring, Taylor appeared to be headed back to Happy Valley after first looking for greener pastures elsewhere.
It seems the peer recruiting work Trae Taylor has done since committing to Nebraska is one reason the Huskers have another shot at landing one of the best receivers in the class. Both Taylor, the quarterback, and Taylor, the wide receiver, play on the 7-on-7 circuit together and have hit it off.
Khalil Taylor made his first trip to Nebraska last fall, shortly after he backed off an early commitment to Penn State. He returned in March for a weekend visit and lined up an official visit with the Huskers shortly after. However, not long after he really started lining up visits, he effectively cut the Cornhuskers out of the running, but the coaching staff and 2027 quarterback haven’t let up and are now being rewarded with one final shot at landing one of the best wideouts of the cycle.
Khalil Taylor’s Nebraska football visit could flip the 2027 receiver picture
The Pine-Richland prospect is considered the No. 13 wide receiver, the No. 4 player in Pennsylvania, and the No. 82 player in the class according to the 247Sports Composite Ratings. He took in the Nittany Lions earlier this month and had also been considering the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, his visit to Lincoln might have wiped the SEC school out of the running.
Taylor has shown the ability to be an effective player in all phases of the game. Last year, he caught 51 passes for 932 yards and an incredible 22 touchdowns. Taylor also had 2 kickoff return touchdowns and a pick-six on defense.
Nebraska is having a bit of an up-and-down run when it comes to wide receiver recruiting of late. While they had been expected to bring in a 4-star wideout in Matthew Gregory, he switched it up after several predictions for the Huskers and committed to UCLA instead. NU filled that hole in the recruiting class with a 3-star wideout from Missouri, Justyn Lindsay. Can they add Khalil Taylor to a quickly rising class? There is at least a chance now with another big weekend.
