The Nebraska football team’s recruiting hot streak continued Tuesday night when 4-star defensive back Jailen Hill officially pulled the trigger for the Huskers. As has been the case with the last several commitments, Hill had been considered a lean toward Matt Rhule and Co. for quite a while and took an official visit to Lincoln earlier this month. He was, in fact, one of those many people thought would commit during that trip, but he held off on his announcement just long enough for NU to start another week very, very strong.
Hill announced over the weekend he would commit on June 16, and now that the deed is done, Matt Rhule’s team has another massive recruiting win. More than that, though, defensive backs coach Addison Williams is on the kind of run that will soon get him elevated to “GOAT” status as far as a recruiter in Lincoln.
This is just Williams' second year on the Nebraska staff after coming over when John Butler was promoted from secondary coach to defensive coordinator. Butler has since been shipped out after one less-than-impressive season, but Rhule kept Williams around, even while claiming that new defensive coordinator Rob Aurich could shape his staff anyway he wanted, besides the defensive backs coach. It’s clear Rhule knew what he was doing, and that move has now paid off four times in the 2027 class.
Hill is not only the Huskers’ fourth secondary commit in this cycle, but he’s the second in June. He joins 4-star safety Corey Hadley, who committed in April, 4-star safety Tory Pittman, who committed last summer, and cornerback Bryce Williams, who committed just 10 days ago. Obviously, Hadley, Williams and Hill are very much on Williams's ledger, but Pittman’s recruitment started before the former UCF assistant came to town. Still, one has to give him credit for the Millard North product at this point as well.
Jailen Hill commitment gives Nebraska football another 4-star defensive back
Nebraska has worried about losing the in-state target to LSU for the last couple of weeks as the Tigers have turned up the heat. However, it seems as though the Huskers have managed to turn that heat back down and will likely use his visit this weekend to make sure they lock him down.
Jailen Hill’s commitment on Tuesday night gives the Huskers 19 commits, with seven of those rated as 4-stars or higher. According to the 247Sports Composite, the St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) product is ranked as the No. 294 player in the class, the No. 34 cornerback, and the No. 25 player in the state of California.
The DB’s pledge also gives the Huskers some bragging rights, considering he boasts more than 20 offers. Among the teams that have pursued him in addition to NU are Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, and Washington.
With Indiana and Washington as the other finalists for Jailen Hill, Nebraska also gets to point out that they beat the defending national champion to land one of the better defenders in the entire cycle.
