When Nebraska is trying to lock down and keep a target as talented as 5-star defensive back Tory Pittman, there’s going to be some highs and lows. There will be times when the Huskers look in good standing and times when they’ll look in trouble. The good news on Tuesday morning is that it’s starting to feel as though Matt Rhule and Co. have weathered a charge by LSU and are looking as though they’ll be able to keep the in-state star near home.
With Pittman taking a visit to LSU this past weekend, blood pressures around Husker Nation rose quite a bit. Considering that the Tigers have ramped up the pressure on the Millard North product, his actually taking a trip down to Baton Rouge rightfully worried some. However, now that he’s done with that trip and back home in Omaha, it seems as if things have cooled enough that the pressure is quite a bit lower than it's been in recent months.
Nebraska first earned Tory Pittman III's commitment last summer, and they’ve been working to make sure he sticks around ever since. At the time, it was clear that at least part of what really helped NU nail down the talented DB was that he felt he could be someone who could bring NU back to its glory days.
"I want to be able to put Nebraska back on the map, bring Nebraska back to what it was. I want to win a championship with Nebraska. The relationship with the coaches and then Coach Matt Ruhle helped a lot with that,” Pittman said at the time.
Tory Pittman returning to Lincoln could help Nebraska football blunt LSU charge
It helps that the defensive back is expected to be back in Lincoln this weekend. That will give the Huskers a chance to really solidify things just off his LSU visit. It can’t be stated enough that Rhule taking what Pittman heard in Baton Rouge and rebutting it this weekend is a massive boon for the Huskers. The commit can take everything he was told by Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron and tell NU word-for-word what pressure points they tried to press.
There’s also the added bonus that Pittman, who is ranked as the No. 50 player in the country, No. 3 safety in the class, and No. 2 player in the State of Nebraska, transferred from Omaha Central to Millard North. As summer workouts begin for the high school area loaded with talent, it’s safe to say that NU commits Trae Taylor and Tay Ellis will talk to the defensive star about playing together in Lincoln often.
Before Tory Pittman committed to Nebraska, Taylor was especially vocal about how badly the Huskers needed to keep the defender home. There’s no indication the 5-star quarterback will back off of working on his new teammate now.
