It was bad enough when LSU won the recruiting battle for Ahmad Hudson. Now Lane Kiffin and Co. are trying to steal Tory Pittman III from Nebraska. This particular loss would be even worse than when the Huskers couldn't secure the commitment of the highly-touted tight end, because the 5-star defensive back is indeed already committed to NU.
Tory Pittman III has Nebraska football watching LSU make its move in Omaha
Despite LSU being rebuffed once already in this cycle, it looks like Kiffin believes he might still be able to win the fight by signing day. It also looks like there is at least some reason to believe the Tigers are making some progress. It's not surprising, considering Pittman is one of the best safeties in the class, and the Huskers still need to show they can compete for those kinds of players.
According to Bryan Munson of Rivals, Pittman had LSU in Omaha earlier this week to evaluate the 5-star recruit. Miami visited Millard North last week, following Pittman's visit to Miami. Obviously, that means that LSU isn't the only school that Nebraska has to worry about. Especially considering the kid who gave his pledge to the Cornhuskers has no problem taking visits to other schools. Compare that with quarterback commit Trae Taylor, who has admitted to talking to other teams, but has no intention of taking visits.

For now, at least, Pittman hasn't scheduled a visit to LSU, but the Tigers are trying to get one sometime this summer. Whether those trips materialize remains to be seen. Still, for Nebraska, the focus now shifts to reinforcing a relationship that has already been built to hold on to the most high-profile targets they've already obtained.
Addison Williams has been closely involved in Pittman's recruitment since joining head coach Matt Rhule’s staff a year ago. In the 2026 cycle, Williams helped Nebraska land five-star defensive back Danny Odem, the program’s highest-ranked high school recruit since Dylan Raiola in 2024.
For the 2027 class, Williams already nabbed pledges from two blue-chip defensive backs. Pittman and NU's most recent commit, Corey Hadley Jr., are both expected to be foundational pieces in the Huskers' secondary moving forward. Williams will have several more shots, alongside the rest of the Huskers staff, over the next few months.
Tory Pittman III remains Nebraska football’s key in-state pledge as teams keep visiting
For Pittman, competition is part of wherever he chooses to go. But for a player of his caliber, it's not something he necessarily needs to shy away from. His eventual decision will likely come down to a mix of fit, development, and opportunity. Either way, Nebraska knows what's at stake. Losing a player of his stature would carry significant consequences for the direction of the 2027 recruiting class, especially considering he's an in-state recruit.

There might not be another recruit in the class that's more important, especially with rising levels of frustration over the job Rhule is doing, even if he's shown signs of real success on the recruiting front this cycle.
Tory PIttman III is the No. 54 overall, No. 3 safety and top overall player in the state according to the Rivals Industry Rankings while the defensive back is the No. 53 overall, No. 3 at his position and No. 1 in Nebraska according to the 247Sports Composite Ratings. Heading into his senior year, he could move up the rankings. Hopefully he doesn't also move on.
