Nebraska football being a contender for some of the best players in the 2027 class is a double-edged sword. The Huskers are bringing in talent that hasn't been seen in these parts for a while. However, the guys they're pursuing (and even have committed), like Tory Pittman, draw plenty of attention from other high-profile schools as well.

According to a new report from On3, Pittman is seeing a renewed push from several big-name teams. LSU and Miami were both specifically mentioned as making a "strong push" for the 5-star defensive back prospect.

To some degree, this isn't anything new, Pittman originally saw a strong push from LSU right before he committed to Nebraska last year. However, when someone like Lane Kiffin makes a player a priority, they tend to listen. Especially if part of that priority is a big NIL offer.

Miami entering the mix has to be attractive for the Omaha player too. The Hurricanes just went to the National Title game last winter and look like they're simply reloading for another run in 2026. Meanwhile, there's enough negative noise around Nebraska and Matt Rhule that Pittman might be wondering how long the current staff will be around.

Pittman, who has played most of his high school career at Omaha Central High School but announced plans to transfer to Millard North over the winter is currently listed by 247Sports as the No. 3 overall safety in the nation for his respective class. He is also the top player in Nebraska and the No. 53 player overall in the network's Composite rankings.

As Crissy Froyd of Death Valley Voice recently noted, "one has to wonder how much of a difference it makes that it is now Kiffin and his staff recruiting Pittman for LSU, as opposed to Brian Kelly and his guys. There have been plenty of complaints in the past on Kelly's below-par recruiting efforts, while Kiffin lies at the opposite end of the spectrum as arguably the best recruiter in all of college football."

Considering how high Tory PIttman is rated, as well as the turmoil surrounding the Nebraska football program, it's not a huge surprise big schools are coming calling. Matt Rhule and his staff will just need to figure out a way to hang on.
