When the Nebraska football team landed a commitment from 5-star prospect Tory Pittman, there was plenty to be excited about right off the bat. That Matt Rhule and Co. got the best player in the state for the 2027 class was just the tip of the iceberg. What Pittman said after giving his pledge is just another reason on a long list of reasons why Husker fans should be incredibly hyped up over why the Omaha Central product ultimately made the call for NU.
Not long after pulling the trigger, Pittman sat down with KETV's Lauren Michelson and talked about what made him realize that Nebraska was the place he needed to end up. Among other things, it was the relationship with head coach Matt Rhule and how long that relationship lasted that convinced the talented player he needed to be a Husker.
Nebraska football commit Tory Pittman's comments should fire fans up
"From the jump, they tried to get to know me as a person," Pittman said about the Nebraska coaching staff. "Coach Matt Rule, we just kept in communication since my eighth-grade year when they first offered me."
"I want to win a championship with Nebraska."

Omaha Central DB Tory Pittman joined me in studio to talk his commitment to the #Huskers and what it means to stay home.

Pittman also talked about his desire to bring the Cornhuskers back to where they used to be as a driving force behind his commitment, especially this early in the process.
"I want to be able to put Nebraska back on the map, bring Nebraska back to what it was. I want to win a championship with Nebraska. The relationship with the coaches and then Coach Matt Ruhle helped a lot with that."
Now that the top prospect in the state for 2027 is in the fold, the biggest question might be what position he plays. While he projects as a defensive back at the college level, there is enough talent there that he has the time to develop as a wide receiver. There's been talk about him being NU's version of Travis Hunter as he continues to grow and get more playing time.
For now, Matt Rhule and his Nebraska staff can simply be excited about reeling in such a talented player and knowing his commitment could start a tidal wave for the 2027 class.
