As the Nebraska football team engages in fall camp, Matt Rhule and Co. are also working hard at getting recruiting going in a big way. In that regard, it looks like they've taken a big step forward with the best player in the state for the 2027 class in Tory Pittman.

Pittman, as it turns out, isn't just the top target in Nebraska. He's also one of the best players in the entire country. Having just gotten his fifth star from 247Sports, he's rated as the No. 2 safety in the 2027 class and the No. 23 player overall by On3.

Frequent trips give Nebraska football edge for five-star safety Tory Pittman

Now the Nebraska football team has some excellent news in that department. On3 analyst Greg Smith has entered a prediction that the Huskers are about to win the battle for Pittman.

"Pittman has been a frequent visitor at Nebraska just being an hour away from campus," Smith wrote. "He has taken one visit this year, back on March 27… expect him to also attend at least one Nebraska game this fall too."

Smith might be underselling the idea that Pittman is a "frequent" visitor, considering he's reportedly taken six trips to campus just down the interstate.

The Cornhuskers are still fighting off some very impressive power conference programs, including LSU. There's an obvious reason for that, considering that in his two seasons at Omaha Central High School, he's racked up 88 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 5 interceptions in 18 games.

Now it's all about when precisely the Nebraska football can actually count Tory Pittman as a commit. Hopefully it's coming soon.
