As if it wasn't important enough before for the Nebraska football program to lock down the state and haul in the best talent on offer from local high schools, Tory Pittman was boosted to a 5-star prospect earlier this week.

Now one of the top prospects in the nation, Pittman is seen as a heavy lean to the Cornhuskers. Pittman earned his rating after two strong seasons at Omaha Central, becoming the No. 1 prospect in the state of Nebraska and the No. 2 safety in the nation, according to the score. Pittman isn't quite a 5-star prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings, but he is considered the No. 2 safety in the entire class and the No. 23 player overrall.

Omaha safety Tory Pittman is now a 5-star, intensifying pressure on Nebraska football to keep him home in 2027

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Nebraska football team's prospect continues to rise in the ranks. The Omaha native showed a great deal of talent early on, receiving an offer from the Huskers in eighth grade.

Pittman is listed at 6 feet, 185 pounds, and continues to rack up offers from numerous D-I schools. These offers include Colorado, Florida State, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Sacramento State, Tennessee, USC, and Wisconsin.

Pittman has shone for Omaha Central in the last two years, standing out on both sides of the ball. The Huskers target has played both safety and wide receiver for the Eagles. In his first season, Pittman totaled 34 tackles and two interceptions and caught three passes for 70 yards in eight games. This past year, he racked up 54 tackles and three interceptions and hauled in 26 catches for 458 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games.

The Nebraska football team is looking to build its 2027 class quickly. At the moment, the only commitment in the class is quarterback Trae Taylor. However, there's a feeling that Pittman might pull the trigger in the not-too-distant future.
