On Saturday afternoon, Bryce Williams pledged to Matt Rhule and Co., giving Nebraska football a commitment after beating out Clemson and Oklahoma. The commitment came amid an official visit weekend that could be a key period for NU this spring and summer.

Williams is in Lincoln with several other much-needed Husker targets and is the second visitor to commit. On Friday, Florida defensive lineman Errol Demontagnac announced his commitment to NU. However, while Demontagnac is considered someone who goes below the radar a bit, Williams could be one of the key additions to Rhule’s 2027 class. That stands out for reasons beyond the fact that Clemson and Oklahoma both threw the kitchen sink at the defensive back and worked hard to get him to look away from his Cornhuskers lean.

Bryce Williams also continues to demonstrate that the new Nebraska defensive backs coach, Addison Williams, is worth his weight in gold. The key assistant has been especially effective in recruiting players in traditional SEC country. Williams already grabbed, Sandy Creek (Ga.) 4-star safety Corey Hadley for the 2027 class, and Nebraska landed 5-star cornerback Danny Odem in the 2026 class.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Western High School has favored Nebraska over all comers since last year. However, the Sooners made a hard charge at the No. 36 defensive back and No. 27 player in Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Ratings. In the end, Williams chose the Huskers over Clemson, North Carolina, Colorado, and other schools.

One reason Nebraska pegged Williams as a “must get” is his versatility, which could see him playing all over the field in Lincoln. The 4-star prospect could line up anywhere from boundary to field to nickel. He could also man the safety position if required.

One other fun aspect of this commitment win is that he’s the second of the weekend who was or is a top target of Florida State. Williams was originally committed to the Seminoles but opened up his recruitment earlier this winter. Demontagnac was also heavily pursued by former Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White, who even took a recent official visit to Tallahassee before committing to the Huskers.
