Nebraska insider says Ahmad Hudson's Husker visit 'upset LSU' amid flip watch

The Huskers gave one elite pledge plenty to think about again

When Ahmad Hudson first committed to LSU over Nebraska, there was talk that “twists and turns” would still come before December signing day. Predictions of a roller coaster ride, even with the tight end saying he was solid to the Bayou Bengals, have now come true, thanks in part to an official visit the top TE in the 2027 class took to Lincoln this past weekend.

One new turn is that after reports initially claimed that Lane Kiffin and Co. weren’t bothered by Hudson’s OV to Lincoln, it’s possible they were more annoyed than they initially let on. According to Rivals analyst Sean Callahan, the Tigers' coaching staff is “upset” about the trip, and that can only be good news for NU fans.

"I think it went really well, and he spent time with Fred Hoiberg... You know he upset LSU, there's no doubt, coming to Nebraska...” Callahan told local radio station 93.7. “But I think the basketball piece to it is a really important part of it... If they were able to pull this off, it would completely change the entire class."

Wednesday’s appearance on the radio by Callahan was far from the first time that Hudson’s desire to play both basketball and football in college was seen as a plus for the Huskers. Hoiberg has played a large role in Hudson’s recruitment for quite a while. It’s always felt like LSU basketball coach Will Wade is on board with the big tight end hooping it up; he hasn’t been nearly as involved in his recruitment. The Tigers coach seems more interested in recruiting and signing guys who were professional players across the pond.

Ahmad Hudson visit gives Nebraska football real momentum against LSU

Not long after Hudson visited Nebraska, he made it clear that Rhule and his staff had once again given him something to think about. In addition to saying that the recruitment is now very close, he mentioned very specific sales pitches that caught his attention.

"They would change the whole offense for me," Hudson reportedly told Rivals.

Tyler Reed of LSU on SI certainly seems a bit shook about this weekend’s developments.

“Losing a five-star talent at any point would be a brutal blow for this team. But with Hudson, he is a Louisiana talent. Losing an in-state player to Nebraska may be one that lingers for a long time.”

Reed also pointed out that losing Hudson to Nebraska wouldn’t just be about losing a highly rated player after getting him to commit. The Huskers got their 16th commitment on Wednesday. At the moment, LSU has just eight commits in its 2027 class. According to On3, the talented tight end is the Tigers’ only 5-star commit. That site also has him as the No. 1 tight end, the No. 20 player in the cycle, and the No. 4 player in the state.

Lane Kiffin might be upset with Hudson visiting Nebraska, but he would almost certainly be even more upset if their recruiting class takes this kind of a hit in his first recruiting cycle.

There are still plenty of twists and turns coming regarding Ahmad Hudson, but the vibes around Nebraska and their chances of flipping him at some point before December seem very good.
