Before the Nebraska football team came calling, Owen Price was running under the radar for most teams. However, since he got a Huskers’ offer, the floodgates have opened. Those floodgates have now seen plenty of Power 4 teams come calling, and the Grand Island Central Catholic star knows that the timing isn’t a coincidence.
Price recently spoke with Rivals analyst Tim Verghese about how quickly his recruitment has changed.”Right after that Nebraska offer, everything started blowing up pretty crazy,” Price said. “I wasn’t really expecting that.
It’s clear that Nebraska was expecting the GICC linebacker to start getting more attention as the calendar ticked toward the fall. Price is not yet ranked as a national player in the 2028 class, though that will change once his junior year starts and he continues to show off the talent that the Huskers and the other Power 4 schools expect out of him that garnered him so many offers over such a short period of time.
In addition to Nebraska, Price has offers from Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Oregon and South Dakota State. Oregon is the offer that most analysts are paying the most attention to, but it’s Iowa that might pose the greatest threat.

Owen Price’s recruitment takes off after Nebraska football offer
The Hawkeyes have managed to steal several Husker prospects over the years right out from under the program’s nose. With Owen Price looking like the latest Carter Nelson-type player, Kirk Ferentz and company will almost certainly go hard after the Grand Island player.
It’s not hard to understand why Price’s profile is growing so quickly. He saw some incredible growth from his freshman to sophomore seasons. The linebacker recorded 96 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and six sacks as a sophomore after posting 34 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, one interception, and one forced fumble as a freshman.
Price really stood out once Grand Island Central Catholic started its postseason run, recording 8 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in his team’s first-round win over West Point-Beemer. He would add 6 tackles and a tackle for loss against Boone Central the following week, then tallied 9 tackles and a tackle for loss in a semifinal victory over Ord. Price's season ended with four tackles and 2 tackles for loss in the Crusaders' 37-15 loss in the Class C2 state championship game against Bishop Neumann.
While he hasn’t gotten ratings or stars as part of the 2028 class, he is listed at 6-3, 210 pounds and has a self-reported 10-8 broad jump and a 40 1/2-inch vertical. He runs a 4.51 40-yard dash. The rising junior is a multi-sport athlete for the Crusaders, competing in Nebraska's Class C and playing varsity football and track and field. Price was part of Grand Island Central Catholic's runner-up finish in the Class C 4x100-meter relay as the second leg of the relay. He also competed in the 100 and 200 meters this spring.
For now, Nebraska is still in very good standing with the prospect, it would seem, having been among the first to get a foot in the door. However, there’s plenty of reason to worry as he starts to get even more attention from programs with serious credentials.
