The Nebraska football team got an offer to Grand Island Central Catholic’s Owen Price fairly early on and, in the process, managed to get in on the ground floor. The Huskers were among the first FBS teams to offer the linebacker, and now his recruiting is starting to explode. The latest example of this came on Friday, when the Iowa Hawkeyes jumped into the race with an official offer.

The Huskers offered Price at the beginning of the month, extending the 2028 prospect's first Power Four offer. The linebacker/athlete received his first Division I offer on May 31 from South Dakota State and was later offered by Miami (OH). Nebraska was the GICC star’s third offer from a Division I program.

Nebraska was soon followed by Minnesota, Kansas State, and then a biggie in Oregon. With the Ducks on Owen Price’s call list, the Hawkeyes might look like a bit player, but their pursuit of the Western Nebraska player also means they’ll be going head-to-head against the Huskers for an in-state talent once again. The two teams have started facing off for the same guys more often in recent years, and this latest battle is another example.

The Huskers' offer becomes the second in-state offer for a 2028 prospect after Nebraska extended an offer to Omaha Westside's Justin Parish, a four-star interior offensive lineman, in mid-May. Parish is regarded as a top-15 rated prospect at his position and the top-rated player in the state of Nebraska for the 2028 cycle. The offer to Parish is another one where NU needed to get into the race quickly, as more than a few Power 4 programs have come calling for the stud player.

Owen Price recruitment heats up as Nebraska football battles Iowa interest

Price does not yet have a prospect rating from 247Sports, but is listed at 6-3, 210 pounds, and has a self-reported 10-8 broad jump and a 40 1/2-inch vertical. and runs a 4.51 40-yard dash. The rising junior is a multi-sport athlete for the Crusaders, competing in Nebraska's Class C and playing varsity football and track and field.

Price was part of Grand Island Central Catholic's runner-up finish in the Class C 4x100-meter relay as the second leg of the relay. He also competed in the 100 and 200 meters this spring.

Price also showed a sophomore leap after a solid if unspectacular freshman season. Last year, he racked up 96 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 2 INTs, and 3 forced fumbles.

Iowa almost certainly won’t be the last Big Ten team that comes calling. Nebraska needs to lock down its borders and make sure Owen Price isn’t going anywhere when he can sign on the dotted line.
