Those Nebraska football fans who were a tad bit concerned about the lack of playing time freshman utility man Carter Nelson got in 2024 might have just gotten a pretty big explanation. The Ainsworth native had hip surgery just after the season ended and will reportedly be out for about six months.
Nelson started off like gangbusters, notching 7 catches in the Huskers first two games for 69 yards and a touchdown. However, he amassed just 3 catches or 17 yards the rest of the way.
It’s possible that home grown Nebraska football star was hampered by the hip problems that were reportedly correct in the surgery he shared pictures of after the fact. Nelson took to Twitter with two photos, one of him in his hospital bed and one in full uniform, with the caption “all good” and a bible verse.
Nebraska football star upbeat after surprise hip surgery
Talk around Nelson’s home town is that he was suffering from bone spurs on both hips causing irritation with both labrums. It’s definitely possible that those bone spurs were working against him for several months.
There had also been some reports during practice this year that he’d been seeing less action than his compatriots. With the plan being that he would get a redshirt this season, some were afraid the Huskers were running the risk of him moving on after winning a staunch recruiting battle.
It’s now clear that he was bothered by injury as the season went on and he’ll return to full strength for the Nebraska footbal team by the middle of the summer. That does mean that he’ll miss valuable spring practice time leaning new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen’s attack, but it clearly can’t be helped at this point in time.
