4-star quarterback and top player in the state according to On3 industry rankings Jett Thomala has narrowed the teams down that he’s still considering to five. The Nebraska football team is not among them.

That’s not a huge surprise. In fact it’s not a surprise at all considering that the Millard South product does not have an official offer from the Cornhuskers. There’s a reason for that of course. The Huskers have a commit for the 2026 class at quarterback in Dayton Raiola. But there’s still going to be some trepidation that Matt Rhule and company sat out this gunslinger’s recruiting.

With the Nebraska football team sitting it out entirely, that’s left things wide open for Iowa State among others to beat down his door. The Cyclones, as well as Arizona, Duke, Virginia Tech and Missouri are Thomalla’s Top 5. And the fact that all five of those finalists are Power 5 will almost certainly make this whole situation go down a little hard for Husker fans.

Thomalla also holds offers from Washington State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Arkansas State and UNLV. Recently, Thomalla picked up a prediction to commit to Iowa State from 247Sports' Alec Busse, an Iowa State insider.

The in-state prospect is a two-year varsity starter for Millard South High School who threw for 3,664 passing yards and 47 touchdowns in the 2024 season. During his sophomore year, he threw for 2,800 yards and 26 touchdowns in his first year as a starter. Thomalla also has 205 career rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns to his name.

It’s clear at this point that the Nebraska football team has picked Dayton Raiola over the homegrown talent. Depending on how each player’s career goes, that decision will be picked apart for years to come.
