Not only is the Nebraska football team 5-0 for the first time since 2016, but Matt Rhule and Co. are making sure their on-field success translates to success on the recruiting trail. Several important visitors were in town to watch the Huskers rally for a big win over the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon. Among the recruits in attendance was a top 2028 tight end, Max Jones.
After the visit, Jones told On3's Bryan Munson that he really liked what he saw on his latest trip to Lincoln. Although he has several game-day visits planned this fall, the Huskers are now near the top of his list.
Nebraska is making serious inroads in the upcoming cycle. The Cornhuskers clearly want to secure a talented tight end in the 2028 class. They've taken the first step with Jones, who will almost certainly be back for spring practice, and then things will really heat up.
Jones is a 4-star tight end in the 2028 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6, 221-pound prospect plays for Parkway West High School in Ballwin, Missouri, after transferring from St. John Vianney following his freshman season. Jones also has experience lining up at wide receiver and playing on defense and special teams.
Four-star TE Max Jones had a terrific visit to Nebraska this weekend. Jones connected with several recruits, including QB commit Trae Taylor. Nebraska is high on his list, with several gameday visits left this fall.

Max Jones recruitment gives Nebraska football another chance to strengthen Missouri pipeline
Jones is ranked No. 312 in the 2028 class, No. 17 at his position, and No. 5 in Missouri, according to the latest 247Sports Composite Rankings. His pursuit remains part of a strong move to Missouri that head coach Matt Rhule has made alongside assistant Jamar Mozee. Mozee and his son Isaiah come out of Missouri, and they've done a good job of reopening what was a very successful pipeline back in the the Tom Osborne days.
Despite being a 4-star player, Jones has run a bit under the radar, though he is starting to pick up steam. Beyond Nebraska, he has offers from Arizona, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin, and West Virginia has also offered him. The Huskers became the first Big Ten program to offer Jones in April, helping Rhule's crew establish themselves as an early contender in his recruitment.
As a sophomore at Parkway West in 2025, Jones hauled in 39 receptions for 419 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Nebraska would love to get that kind of production out of the tight end spot and take over for Luke Lindemeyer when he moves on to the NFL.
Looking ahead, Jones already has four more unofficial visits scheduled during the 2026 season. He is scheduled to visit Notre Dame on October 10 for his first trip to South Bend, before traveling to Arizona State on October 24. Jones then plans to make his second visit to Kansas on November 7 and his second trip to Minnesota on November 21.
Once those trips are all done, Nebraska's pursuit of Max Jones really begins.
