Matt Rhule and his Nebraska football staff have impressed many of the country’s best recruits in the 2027 cycle. He’s also impressed analysts who closely track where those top prospects will land, and it now appears the Huskers' coaching staff may finally be ready to flip Ahmad Hudson after a summer of waiting and wondering.
On Thursday afternoon, On3 chief recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong offered several updates on many of the best players in the 2027 cycle. Among those, Hudson’s name stood out as Wiltfong believes the talented two-sport star could be close to pulling the trigger for the Huskers.
Back in May, Hudson committed to Lane Kiffin and LSU, though some around the situation felt it was more about the 5-star recruit staying close to home than truly loving the Tigers more than the Huskers. Even after that commitment, Hudson took an official visit to Lincoln, and since then the talk has not stopped about a potential flip. Now, according to Wiltfong, Nebraska’s pressure on the top target may have finally worked.
In part of his update, Wiltfong reportedly said a “final decision” is coming, and he believes that when Hudson makes that final call, it will be for the Huskers. He added that it could be only a few weeks away, and boy, would that be a heck of a move right around Nebraska’s season opener against Ohio.

Steve Wiltfong predicts Ahmad Hudson will flip from LSU to Nebraska football
Signs that LSU was losing its grip on Hudson have been building for a while now, including the mixed messaging when he took the official visit with Nebraska. Officially, Kiffin’s program told anyone who would listen that they knew about the visit and weren’t worried at all. However, behind the scenes, NU insiders said the Bayou Bengals’ staff were quite peeved he hadn’t already shut down his recruiting.
The 6-foot-6, 245-pound 5-star from Ruston High School in Ruston, Louisiana, is also one of the nation’s top basketball prospects and intends to play both sports in college. Hudson is ranked as the No. 19 player in the 2027 class, the No. 1 tight end and the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
As a junior in 2025, Hudson caught 61 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games for Ruston. He produced six receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown in the Louisiana Division I Non-Select state championship game and earned first-team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors. On the basketball court, he averaged 19.7 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game during the 2025-26 season.
One big reason Hudson continues to consider flipping to Nebraska is that basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has made it very clear he’d be more than happy to share the talented player with the football team. That may have been one factor in the Huskers eventually winning a massive recruiting battle.
