After a one-game road trip to Michigan State, Nebraska returns to Lincoln to face Maryland. To celebrate the return to Memorial Stadium and hopefully to celebrate a 5-0 start to the year, the Huskers are bringing in some of their top targets in the 2028 class. A big win and a raucous environment could even lead to a commit or two.
Several 2027 commits will be in town, and with Corey Hadley and Jailen Hill among them, the Huskers must keep them in the fold. However, the number of 2028 targets expected to be in town is massive as Matt Rhule and Co. try to build on what’s been a very good recruiting cycle. Many analysts believe the Cornhuskers will post back-to-back Top 25 classes in the 2027 and 2028 cycles, and pulling a few out of this weekend will go a long way toward that.
At the top of Nebraska’s shopping list for the Maryland game are a pair of recruits from Ashburn (Va.) Loudoun Sports Academy. 4-star wide receiver Malachi Lee and 3-star running back Marquece Sharpe will each return to Lincoln. Both were on campus in June.

Nebraska football hosts Malachi Lee, Allen Kennett V and other top 2028 recruits
Lee doesn’t have any official predictions to land with NU, but the On3 RPM has been trending toward him taking his services to Lincoln for his college days. Rutgers is the chief competitor right now, and the Cornhuskers should be able to beat out the Scarlet Knights unless Greg Schiano’s squad rolls out an insane NIL amount.
4-star interior offensive lineman Grayson Williams, 4-star defensive lineman Javontae Eldridge, and 4-star linebacker Allen Kennett V are also in town.
One of the more interesting recruiting stories of that group is Kennett. Most recruiting analysts consider him a heavy lean to Texas, but he was also a high school teammate of current Husker tight end Luke Sorensen. It’s a safe bet that Sorensen will pull out all the stops to try to get his old mate to change his mind and play for Nebraska instead.
For now, Nebraska doesn’t commit in the 2028 class. If everything goes right on October 3, the Huskers could start making some real noise. It’s still relatively early for that cycle, but stranger things have happened. At worst, Rhule and company can make inroads and build momentum over the coming months.
