Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule was quite proud of his team’s effort on Saturday despite the 21-17 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Considering what happened the weekend before hand and the lack of fight he saw from the team agianst Indiana, it's clear that Rhule saw a shift in mindset during Saturday’s game.
The Huskers coach was impressed with his team’s resolve and ability to compete with the fourth-ranked team in the country to the point where they were in position to win the game with less than three minutes to go.
After the near-upset, the Nebraska football head coach spoke about his team's mentality and what he felt he saw for the first time in Lincoln.
Nebraska football head coach proud of team following close loss
"This is the first time since I’ve been here that I’ve felt a championship mindset in this locker room.”
That's actually a rather impressive sentiment, considering he spent much of last week talking about how he didn't see the kind of fight he wanted against Indiana. Rhule has made similar comments in the past.
Last year, when the Huskers were drubbed by the Michigan Wolverines, Rhule said he felt as though the team didn't fight the way he knew they could. He echoed those comments after Indiana.
Despite the loss to Ohio State, Rhule was clearly happy with the team competed, even after getting down early. That's the first step for a Nebraska football program desperate to turn the page and become a better team again.
