It’s been a rather wild couple of hours for Nebraska football on Tuesday night. The Huskers got their third commit of the 2026 class early on Tuesday evening in the form of defensive back CJ Bronaugh. Then, just minutes later they lost their only tight end commit of the 2025 class in Bear Tenney.

Tenney’s decommitment certainly comes as a bit of a surprise as there really weren’t many rumblings that he was looking elsewhere. Especially not just over a week before signing day.

Tenney’s decommitment is also interesting because when he pulled the trigger for the Nebraska football program back in April, he credited star quarterback Dylan Raiola as a big reason why he did so. With Raiola showing how good he can be in the Huskers’ offense, deciding to decommit so soon before he was due to sign his pledge stands out.

Obviously, some internet sleuths might draw a line from tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield being stripped of his offensive coordinator duties a few weeks back as a possible contributing factor. Perhaps Tenney doesn’t think Satterfield will be there at all come 2025.

“After much thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruitment and decommit from the University of Nebraska,” Tenney wrote, announcing his decision on X. “This decision was not easy, and it comes with the utmost respect for Nebraska’s program, staff, team, and everything they represent.”

It is also possible that Tenney has gotten the vibe that the Nebraska football team is zeroing in on another tight end prospect, 4-star Millard South blue-chipper Chase Loftin. Loftin has been committed to Florida State, but he’s expected to flip to the Huskers on or just before signing day.
