The Nebraska football team wrapped up June one of the biggest recruiting heaters of the last few weeks. Now Matt Rhule and Co. have gotten off July to quite the banger start. Just a few days after the rest of the nation set of millions of fireworks, the Huskers set off some of their some with the commitment of Khalil Taylor.

Taylor, once a Penn State commitment back in the James Franklin days, became a free agent when Franklin was fired and eventually moved to Virginia Tech. The 4-star wide receiver was then a lean towards the Nittany Lions when Matt Campbell was hired. However things started to change for the better in Lincoln and on Monday morning, Taylor pulled the trigger on the commitment to the Huskers.

In the process of winning the recruiting battle against Penn State, Nebraska pulled out a prospect that many analysts believed the Nittany Lions needed to secure. Campbell has had a few problems here and there locking down the state's borders and the Huskers took advantage of that in a very big way.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound 4-star wide receiver from Pine-Richland High School (Gibsonia, PA), is ranked as the No. 84 player in the 2027 class, the No. 13 player at his position and the No. 4 player in the state of Pennsylvania according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Khalil Taylor gives Nebraska football another 4-star 2027 recruiting win

In addition to Nebraska and Penn State, Taylor had plenty of interest from all over the country. He had offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Wisconsin among many others. There's no mystery as to why he was so heavily pursued either.

Taylor has a combination of great hands and speed that will serve the Huskers well assuming they can keep him in the fold all the way up to December. That combination made him a fantastic wide receiver but he also played defensse quite well and is a weapon on special teams.

Taylor caught 33 passes for 571 yards and 16 touchdowns during his 2025 junior season while also adding 22 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 4 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, one sack, 3 kick-return touchdowns and 3 punt-return touchdowns. In 2024 at he caught 51 passes for 932 yards and 22 touchdowns and added two kick-return touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

Khalil Taylor's commitment was a blow to Penn State and a big time boon for Nebraska but it was hardly a surprise. The 4-star prospect foreshadowed he was ready to become a Husker when he took his official visit to Lincoln. He gave a few cryptic hints that social media mavens picked up on quickly that made his Monday morning announcement almost a foregone conclusion. That doesn't make it any less fun for Matt Rhule and his crew as they continue building one heck of a 2027 class.

Nebraska now has 22 commits in a class that was ranked No. 20 to start the day and Khalil Taylor makes the third receiver joining Tay Ellis and Justyn Lindsay. In the process, the Huskers might be close to "done" for the 2027 cycle.
