The Nebraska football team doesn’t have any commits in its 2028 class just yet. It feels like that could change at any moment, and defensive back Jordan Slye Jr. would be as good as any to make that change.
Granted, the Huskers and Slye just began their relationship with the cornerback getting an official offer from NU earlier this month. Still, the way DB coach Addison Williams has worked so far this year on the recruiting front, it’s hardly far-fetched to think he could worm his way in quickly.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound 3-star cornerback from Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Los Angeles, California, is also a two-way athlete who plays wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball. Slye is ranked as the No. 460 player in the 2028 class, the No. 49 player at his position, and the No. 40 player in the state of California, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
Despite not yet getting highly ranked, Slye has received offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, California, Colorado State, Delaware State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, San Jose State, UConn, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Utah and Washington. Nebraska became his 21st known offer when the Cornhuskers extended one on August 21.

As a sophomore in 2025, Slye caught 17 passes for 362 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 21.3 yards per reception, while also recording two interceptions on defense. Through the first two games of his 2026 junior season, he has already caught 12 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 17.8 yards per catch and 107 receiving yards per game.
While he’s making more headlines as a receiver at the moment, Nebraska sees him as someone who will be better working out of coverage if and when he comes to Lincoln.
Williams has been successful in recognizing good young talent from the West Coast. In 2027, they pulled Jailen Hill out of California. While it’s going to be difficult to lure Slye away from the likes of USC and UCLA, it wouldn’t be totally unheard of, especially from Matt Rhule and his staff.
Nebraska will also have to fight off other West Coast teams that neighbor California, such as the Washington Huskies. The first step in winning that battle will be getting Jordan Slye to Lincoln to see what the Huskers have to offer up close and personal. An offer so close to the regular season certainly indicates the coaches will look to get him up to Memorial Stadium on a gameday this fall.
