The Nebraska football team is on an incredible recruiting heater this month. Coming into June, the Huskers had 10 commitments in the 2027 cycle. As the calendar heads toward July, the Cornhuskers now have a whopping 21 commitments, and it looks as though Matt Rhule and his staff might be just about done with this cycle. When looking at who has done the best job on the staff for 2027, it should surprise no one that it's been defensive backs coach Addison Williams and offensive line coach Geep Wade. What might surprise and delight NU fans is that they’re not only on the best run on the staff but also currently rank among the top recruiters in the entire country.

Williams has especially had a very good run, earning credit for four defensive back commits in the 2027 class. Tory Pittman III, Bryce Williams, Corey Hadley Jr., and Jailen Hill are all 4-star prospects and have led the Huskers’ DB coach to rank third in the nation overall according to 247Sports.

Geep Wade, who is still in the first few months of his Nebraska football career, also has four commits so far in this class and has even won a couple of head-to-head showdowns with schools that should be able to get the better of the Cornhuskers, considering how much better they’ve been on the field.

The four commitments that Wade is credited with are 4-star Jordan Agbanoma, 4-star Timi Aliu, 3-star in-state legacy Barrett Kitrell, and 3-star KD Jones. Those pledges have earned the Husker OL coach a No. 9 national ranking, according to 247Sports.

Addison Williams and Geep Wade lead Nebraska football’s recruiting surge

What’s even more impressive than their rankings (which are plenty impressive) is that both Nebraska coaches have jumped up the rankings rather quickly. The last time the list was updated, Williams was No. 7 and moved up four spots to his current seat. Wade leaped even higher, getting a 12-spot bump to his current ranking.

In the Big Ten, Williams is behind only Ohio State’s offensive line coach, Tyler Bowen. Bowen is credited with six commitments by 247Sports, all rated as 4-star prospects. Penn State’s Terry Smith is ranked No. 3 in the conference with five commitments in this cycle, and Wade is ranked No. 4 in the entire conference.

Heading into a make-or-break 2026 season, Nebraska needs all the momentum it can get. The vibes around Lincoln were not great after a 2025 campaign that ended with three straight blowout losses. Winning on the field is obviously more important for the Cornhuskers, but until that becomes possible, big-time recruiting wins and national recognition are a positive step in the right direction.
