Nebraska’s Georgia heater may be a June visit away from hitting the trifecta

The Nebraska football team is on a bit of a heater recruiting-wise as May winds down. The Huskers scored not one but two Georgia prospects from the same high school last week, and when June kicks off, they could nab the trifecta. After Jordan Agbanoma and KD Jones committed, Olafemi "Joey" Hunter could be next.

Hunter has had analysts predicting he'll commit to the Huskers for a little while now. The Grayson High 3-star tight end seemed to especially make a move towards NU when his teammates pulled the trigger on their pledges. Now that he's scheduled an official visit to Lincoln from June 5 to June 7, it seems more than a little likely that he'll join his teammates on the commitment list during that trip.

Hunter announced his official visit plans on Twitter earlier this week. During that announcement post, he thanked the Nebraska coaches for the opportunity, and even that announcement felt more like a plan to map out when he'd join his high school mates, more than just a trip to Lincoln.

Of course, if Hunter is planning to commit on June 7, some of his other schedules would have to shift. In addition to seeing the Huskers, the 3-star tight end will see Georgia Tech on May 29. Then, after he takes in all that the Big Red has to offer, he's slated to visit Pittsburgh on June 11 and Syracuse on June 19.

Joey Hunter gives Nebraska football a chance to complete a Grayson recruiting trifecta

Hunter ranks as the No. 42 tight end in the 2027 class. At 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, he possesses the kind of physical frame that suggests he'll punch above his weight class in college. The Georgia native has already collected 31 Division I offers, with Nebraska entering the race on May 9.

With Ahmad Hudson committing to LSU earlier in May, it stands to reason that Hunter is now the Cornhuskers' top tight end prospect in the 2027 class. With no other TEs currently committed this cycle, Matt Rhule and Co. would love to lock him down and move on to the next position of need.

It's only been just over two weeks since Hunter received his scholarship offer from Nebraska. In May alone, the three-star tight end has picked up offers from four other schools. His stock is rising quickly. As a result, the Huskers are giving him everything they've got.

That includes using one of their top peer recruiters, quarterback Trae Taylor, on social media. Hoping to increase Hunter’s interest in Lincoln, Taylor recently took to Twitter to spotlight the talented tight end prospect. His message was simple, but meaningful: “So that everyone knows this guy right here.” In doing so, Taylor made it clear he's interested in eventually teaming up with Hunter at Nebraska.

Even with several other Power 4 schools jumping into the mix late, On3's Tim Verghese logged a prediction that Nebraska would land Joey Hunter on May 22. It's likely the commitment could come before he starts taking official visits. However, since he's never seen Lincoln, his trip to the capital city seems like the best bet.
