The Nebraska football team managed to get its biggest portal transfer of the season, just as everything was wrapping up and solidifying for the spring.
Rocco Spindler entered the portal late, thanks to his Notre Dame team playing for the National Title. When he did enter, the Huskers were immediately one of the teams that was thought to have the best chance of landing the veteran interior offensive lineman who started 23 games in the last two years for the Fighting Irish.
However, on Saturday, the tide seemed to be turning toward the Virginia Cavaliers after Spindler paid a visit to the ACC school. Whether those vibes were wrong, or the Nebraska football team was able to up its offer, Matt Rhule and company got their guy when the smoke cleared.

Nebraska football gets its guy just in the nick of time
The addition of Spindler means that the Huskers have some shifting around in mind for the offensive line come this spring. The former Irish star played every game the last two years at guard, while the Huskers have mostly been on the hunt for offensive tackles this offseason.
Of course, with no more high-quality tackles on the market and Spindler suddenly becoming available after the last game of the season, it was a no-brainer for the Cornhuskers to go after him.
Spindler might have gotten the starting job this season due to injuries, but he certainly made the most of his opportunity. According to PFF, he had his best career season. He’s also someone who even before this year, has been very dependable in the passing game.
In those 23 starts, Spindler has allowed the opponent to get to the quarterback just 9 times and record just two sacks. He’s allowed just 14 hurries. That’s going to be quite important for the Huskers and Dylan Raiola as the star quarterback looks to take the next step in 2025.
Now, Spindler can pack his things and head to campus. The sooner he learns the Nebraska football protection packages, the better.
