If you had the Nebraska football team losing a recruiting battle for a coveted offensive lineman who started his college career at Notre Dame to the Virginia Cavaliers on your bingo card, go collect your prize.
The rest of us will just stand back here and wonder how in the world that became something that could happen in 2025. We’ll also sit back and hope that the direction the wind blowing still has some time to change before Rocco Spindler locks in a decision for the ACC also-ran.
The Nebraska football team looked like the front runner for Spindler when the weekend began. In what was thought to be a three-team race between the Huskers, Indiana and Michigan, NU got a lot of love. And then, somehow, UVA entered the picture. And now predictions have come filling in that Spindler will pick the Cavs. And could do it in the next couple of hours.
Nebraska football looks like it’s losing out to ACC also-ran
Spindler took visits to Nebraska and Indiana and then opted not to take a visit to Michigan (who at one time looked like the odds-on favorite since he’s from Detroit.) Then he took a trip to the Cavs and was apparently blown away.
It’s not hard to imagine what exactly blew him away. The implication in this day and age will always be that the ACC school offered him a bigger bag of money. One just has to wonder how that’s possible against a squad like the Cornhuskers in the mix, and badly needing another offensive lineman in the transfer portal.
It is worth noting that even though On3 has several predictions about Spindler picking the late entry in the race, none of them seem all that confident. However, the timing of those predictions certainly seems as though they’ve been told something pretty concrete.
While there isn’t an official commitment date or time out there, it feels like Nebraska football faithful will find out a final decision one way or the other soon enough.
