What a ride the transfer portal can be for the Nebraska football team. Just when it looked like they might be back in the race for transfer running back CharMar Brown, they are officially … not.

Back on Monday, all of the top recruiting analysts believed that he was headed to the Cal Golden Bears. The reason for that wasn’t a huge mystery. The ACC school has seen a ton of RBs depart this year with rumors of strife in the locker room and some of the coaches. His going to Cal would almost certainly guarantee he would be the starter.

Nebraska football misses on portal RB as CharMar Brown chooses Miami

However Monday’s expected commitment date came and went with nary a word from the Creighton Prep product. And after a few days of questions from analysts and total silence from Brown, it appeared Nebraska football was back in the race. And then, just minutes after things changed, they change again and the back chose the Miami Hurricanes.

On Wednesday morning, On3 recruiting analyst Pete Nakos announced on X he was withdrawing his prediction of Brown going to Cal. Before Nebraska fans could get too excited, Nakos turned around and entered another prediction, even if he didn’t this one as much fanfare. Nakos dropped a prediction of 80% certainty that the Hurricanes were now the team to beat.

And then, just about half an hour later, Brown made it official. He’ll head to Miami, who had seemed like the front runner when he first entered the portal last Friday. There have been rumors that the Nebraska football team wasn’t willing to make room in its NIL budget for the Omaha native, despite the fact that he ran for over 1,000 yards with the FCS school in 2024.There was hope that they could pull a rabbit out of Matt Rhule’s hat. It appears that wasn’t to be.
