Since the Nebraska football team is on a recruiting tear the likes of which it has rarely seen, especially this early in the year, it looks like the staff is looking to cash in on its momentum by going after Texas A&M commit Chance Archangel.
The most interesting thing about the pursuit of the 4-star EDGE is that it marks yet another in what has been a string of recruiting battles this spring and summer against Mike Elko and the Aggies. The Huskers are very much in the “you win some, someone else wins others” approach to that battle. NU beat out the SEC school for 4-star offensive lineman Jordan Agbanoma. That was especially a fun surprise considering he lives in the heart of SEC country and in the Georgia Bulldogs’ backyard.
Nebraska was then among a group of schools who were named finalists for 5-star interior offensive lineman Albert Simien. Late in the process, there was even some thought that the Huskers had surged into the lead for the talented Louisiana prospect. In the end, he didn’t pick NU or Texas A&M. Instead, he went to Notre Dame. At least the Aggies didn’t win there.
Now the two schools are competing over another Louisiana prospect, Archangel. The Westgate (New Iberia, LA) defender is considered the No. 244 player in the entire 2028 class, as well as the No. 24 EDGE and No. 5 player in Louisiana, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. He just committed to the Aggies on June 2, but the Huskers apparently believe there’s a chance to pry him away.

Nebraska football offers Texas A&M commit Chance Archangel during recruiting surge
Nebraska offered Archangel on Sunday, and it seems unlikely they would join the race for a committed player this late in the game unless they felt as though it was worth their time. Granted, one reason why it will be worth their time is that they still have plenty of time to drive that wedge in before December of next year. Still, going head-to-head with Texas A&M, even for a 2028 prospect, is a gutsy call.
The Aggies currently have the No. 1-ranked class in the 2027 cycle, and their first 2028 commit was one of the best EDGE players in his class. He chose the Aggies over Alabama, Texas, LSU, Miami, and a wave of other high-profile suitors.
It stands to reason that Nebraska has heard more than a few whispers about how its 11 commits so far in June have made waves in recruiting circles. No better time to pounce on a prospect like Chance Archangel than while the iron is hot.
