As the Nebraska football team refocuses its recruiting to the 2028 class, the coaches have extended an offer to an NFL legacy prospect and the nephew of one of the most famed UFC fighters in history.

Arthur Jones IV recently received an offer from the Huskers. The son of former NFL defensive lineman Arthur Jones and the nephew of former NFL defensive end Chandler Jones and UFC legend Jon Jones likes what he's seen so far. In fact, Jones told Rivals analyst Tim Verghese that he's already planning to make multiple visits to Lincoln to get a full view of the Cornhuskers.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound four-star defensive lineman from Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse, NY) is one of the fastest rising defenders in the 2028 class. Nebraska looks like it's once again trying to capitalize on its ties to the Northeast to bring in talented players from the region.

Jones is ranked as the No. 220 player in the 2028 class, the No. 21 player at his position, and the No. 2 player in the state of New York, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. He got an offer from the Cornhuskers on July 1, but they're far from the only big school that has come calling. In addition to NU, he has offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, Rutgers, South Alabama, Syracuse, Tennessee, Toledo, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech, among others.

Arthur Jones IV plans multiple Nebraska football visits after landing offer

Nebraska has some work to do to make up ground on Jones. Other teams got into the race earlier and seem to have gotten his attention. Penn State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Rutgers are among programs out ahead for the 4-star defensive lineman early on. Notre Dame and Indiana got him to campus earlier this spring and then offered while he was on his unofficial visits.

Being an NFL legacy, the school the Huskers might need to worry about the most is the Fighting Irish. Marcus Freeman has made a habit of fashioning his program as the landing place for family members of former professional football stars.

With Arthur Jones IV considering Nebraska, the next obvious step will be getting him to Lincoln and explaining why the Midwest is a much better destination for the stud defensive lineman who can play either tackle or edge at the next level.  With multiple visits this fall planned, the late start doesn't seem to have hurt the Huskers much.
