The Nebraska football team is ramping up its 2027 recruiting efforts on a number of different prospects, and its efforts seem to be paying off in the eyes of defensive lineman Zai'Vion Meads. Meads has shown some serious interest in the Huskers and is now planning a visit to Lincoln later this spring.
Rivals' Bryan Munson reports that the interest is mutual from both sides. The Huskers see Meads as someone who can be very versatile on the defensive line. The Louisville prospect has heard enough from Matt Rhule and his staff that he's planning on taking an official visit in June.
Meads is a 3-star defensive lineman who is still operating a bit under the radar, but he may not be doing that for very much longer. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defender is considered the No. 76 defensive lineman in the class and No. 12 player in Kentucky according to 247Sports.
How Nebraska positioned itself for a key visit from Zai’Vion Meads
However, Meads has plenty of offers from some of the bigger schools in the sport. In addition to NU, Kentucky and Baylor have both come calling. Earlier this month, the defensive lineman shed some light on the teams that are standing out.
Meads told KSR+ this week that five schools are starting to separate themselves from the pack. His top five currently consists of Nebraska, Louisville, Purdue, Kentucky, and UNLV.
“Some of them have been kinda recent, like Nebraska,” Meads said. "I got offered from them maybe two or three weeks ago. Just from talking with the coaches and how much we communicated and them letting me know how much of a priority I am, I’m anxious to get there to the campus to check it out."
Nebraska would love to not only get Zai'Vion Meads into town, but also get him to commit when he does come to visit. At the moment, it doesn't appear that it is out of the question.
