After several weeks of very little movement, things have seemingly heated up quickly between Nebraska and Ahmad Hudson. One of the reasons the Huskers are considered to be taking the lead in the pursuit of the two-sport star is that they’re actually paying attention to his very obvious desire to stay a two-sport star in college.
Not long after On3’s Steve Wiltfong reported that NU is making progress in prying Hudson away from LSU, Tim Verghese told 93.7 The Ticket that the Nebraska football and basketball squads are teaming up to bring in the talented prospect.
“If you go and look at the basketball side of things, there hasn't really been, at least to my knowledge, last I checked with them, a detailed plan on what the basketball staff at LSU wants to do,” Verghese said about whether Hudson has even been told he’ll be allowed to star on the hard court in Baton Rouge.
“Meanwhile, on Nebraska's end, Fred Hoiberg's staff has laid out this plan of exactly how he will be used,” Verghese added. “Fred Hoiberg has already told me he's going to be the best rebounder he's ever coached. That means a lot to a guy like Hudson who wants to make it to the league. He wants a shot at the NBA and the NFL if he can get both, you know.”

Fred Hoiberg’s Nebraska basketball plan gives Nebraska football edge for Ahmad Hudson
The analyst went on to say that he believes the basketball side of things is huge. It is a trump card that could be the reason Hudson decommits from LSU and comes to Lincoln instead. While Tigers basketball coach Will Wade might not even be recruiting Hudson, despite him being one of the best centers in the class, Hoiberg is going to places like Las Vegas to see Hudson play and dominate.
If Verghese is right and LSU still hasn’t decided how it wants to approach Hudson’s recruitment, it’s a bizarre misstep by the Bayou Bengals that might cost them the loss of one of the best players in their backyard.
6-foot-6, 245-pound 5-star tight end from Ruston High School in Ruston, Louisiana, is ranked as the No. 19 player in the 2027 class, the No. 1 player at his tight end position, and the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
As a junior in 2025, Hudson caught 61 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games for Ruston. That performance earned him first-team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors. As an elite basketball player, he averaged 19.7 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game during the 2025-26 season.
As things continue to move along, Nebraska still needs to flip Ahmad Hudson officially, and it seems there is a decent chance they’ll pull it off. If and when it does, the football team will be a big part of it, but the basketball team could be an equal partner in that regard.
