Is Nebraska close to landing its 2028 quarterback commit? Jaxson Carper likely isn’t ready to officially pull the trigger, but the Huskers have a good foothold and might be the leaders of the pack. They’ll have a chance to solidify their standing this fall when the gunslinger visits Lincoln for the Ohio State game.

The visit this fall comes on the heels of an unofficial visit in June where Rivals’ Bryan Munson says Carper struck a strong connection with Matt Rhule, Glenn Thomas and Dana Holgorsen. It seems as though that relationship will come in very handy as he starts to cut down his favorites and move closer to making a final decision.

If there is a list of favorites, Arizona, Nebraska, UCLA, Iowa and Kansas would be in that top group, and the Wildcats definitely have his attention since the coaching staff has been so involved with him and he loves the whole group in Tucson as well,” Rivals’ Adam Gorney wrote earlier this month.

“Arizona is a top school for me right now,” Carper told the analyst. “I like Nebraska a lot. UCLA, Iowa is up there, Kansas, that’s the top five right now. Arizona is top-two for sure.” Carper also told Gorney that he is aware of the success of Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita over the years, and he feels that success is important for Carper to see what he might be able to do in the Big 12, even if their games are a bit different.

Nebraska football gets major fall visit from 2028 QB Jaxson Carper

“He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s a top guy for sure. The way they help him, build him up, and talk so highly of him shows they have confidence in him. You want to see that in a  program. If I go there, they might talk about me like that, and it would be amazing.”

Carper didn’t explicitly say which schooCarper didn’t explicitly say which school would be the other in the “Top Two,” but it sure seems like Nebraska has become the biggest challenger to Arizona.d to seemingly gain ground is that they’ve changed what they’re looking for in a quarterback after the Dylan Raiola experiment ended with him departing for Oregon.

Nebraska has shifted its evaluation of quarterbacks so that mobility is not an afterthought. It is now a top criterion for the Huskers. Jaxson Carper certainly has the tools the new approach is looking for, and his production helps show why he fits. As a sophomore, he threw for over 1,600 yards and ran for 264 yards in limited playing time. He’ll be elevated to a starter in 2025, and there are plenty of teams that will give his junior year a long look.

Carper is ranked as the No. 280 player in the 2028 class, the No. 19 player at the position, and the No. 21 player in the state of California, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, which underscores the level of attention he is drawing.

The next step in Jaxson Carper’s recruitment for Nebraska will be to have a great showing against Ohio State. Should they manage to impress the California quarterback when he’s in Lincoln, they could take a big step towards gaining his commitment.
