The Nebraska football team knows it has its quarterback for the 2026 season, whether it be Anthony Colandrea or TJ Lateef. It thinks it has its QB of the future for 2027 in Trae Taylor. Now it's looking for a quarterback for the far-flung future, with a new scholarship offer to 2028 signal-caller Jaxson Carper.

Carper is a 3-star quarterback in the 2028 cycle out of St. Bonaventure High in Ventura, California. While he's still somewhat low-profile, it's clear he's starting to take off. The No. 34 quarterback in the class and the No. 29 player in California in the Rivals Industry Rankings already has some power programs coming for him. The good news is that the Huskers have gotten a foot in the door with this new offer.

In addition to Nebraska, Carper has offers from Arizona, Texas Tech, SMU, Georgia State, Toledo, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Sacramento State, and Marshall. The good news is that there aren't currently any Power 4 California programs really hunting for the dual-threat quarterback.

One reason why there haven't been a ton of schools on his radar yet is that his numbers were impressive but not eye-popping in his sophomore campaign. Carper threw for 1,642 yards while completing 60% of his passes for 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. While some analysts technically count him as a pocket passer, he does have the ability to run and gun. Carper amassed 264 yards and one touchdown to go along with his passing stats, according to MaxPreps.

Jaxson Carper gives Nebraska football another 2028 quarterback target to track

Those numbers are plenty good for someone new to varsity high school football, and the 6-foot-2, 175-pound quarterback will have plenty of time to grow and adapt.

Just who might end up being the quarterback or quarterbacks from the 2028 class is still very much up in the air. Carper is the latest QB offer from Matt Rhule, Glenn Thomas, and Co., and the Huskers now have 11 total offers out to 2028 signal-callers.

In addition to Carper, the Cornhuskers now have offers out to Jayden Wade (IMG Academy – Los Angeles, CA); Lukas Prock (Hun School – Wellesley, MA); Neimann Lawrence (American Heritage – Miami, FL); Chandler Dyson (Warner Robins – Warner Robins, GA); Gavin Hampton (Riverdale – Murfreesboro, TN); Hunter Fujikawa (Mililani – Mililani, HI); Brady Quinn (Chaminade-Madonna Prep – Hollywood, FL); Ayden Edwards (Tustin – Mission Viejo, CA); Treyvone Towns (Rancho Cucamonga – Los Angeles, CA); and Ace Amina (Bishop Gorman – Las Vegas, NV).

Rhule and his coaches are also monitoring several other 2028 quarterbacks, including Kaden Craft (Lake Norman - Mooresville, N.C). While NU won't be a real competitor for all 11 quarterbacks who have been offered, a few are starting to lean towards Lincoln.

Jaxson Carper certainly looks like someone who could end up being a top target of the Nebraska football team as it starts to narrow down who it will target to play behind center. Now that he has an official offer, the next step is to get him to campus for an official visit.
