The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team is bracing for a big June, though it’s not starting out quite as well as the coaching staff might have hoped. That’s because late on Wednesday afternoon, the team lost a recruiting battle. And they lost a recruiting battle there was a time they were the leaders for until recently
Camren Hamiel, considered the top player in the state of Arizona by On3 Industry Rankings committed to the Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday. While Mike Elko is a good enough recruiter that it’s not totally unexpected that Nebraska might lose out to him, but considering the Huskers were slated to host Hamiel this weekend, the timing is certainly a bit stunning.
Nebraska Cornhuskers appear to be in good hands with Trae Taylor, when it’s his time
Trae Taylor can’t join the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team for a little while now, but he’s already talking about what he’ll do when he arrives. The 2027 quarterback is poised to be the “next man up,” after Dylan Raiola moves on.
Taylor knows this, and it appears that’s at least part of why he committed so early and is trying to learn everything he can about the program before he’s eligible to join the program. Taylor sat down for an interview with Adam Carriker and during that talk, he made it clear he wants to be the guy after the guy.
"My job is to take over when Dylan leaves," Taylor said on the podcast. "Really just learn from him, that is what I am doing right now, learning from him, seeing how he takes control of the offense of the team, be the leader, and take over where he ends."
Flobraska coming soon to the Huskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers haven’t gotten a big time commit for a little while, at least when it comes to the 2026 class. However, that streak might be just about over. Linebacker coach Philip Simpson seemed to hint on Tuesday morning that things were changing and the Huskers were getting a commit from one of their Florida prospects. Just who it will be is still very much up in the air.
