While the Nebraska football team doesn’t have any commits from from some of the big prospects its been working on, that may change soon. In fact, if clues given by assistant coach Philip Simpson on social media can be believed, it might have changed already.
The Cornhuskers had a massive set of visits this past weekend. While no players have announced any changes to their recruiting status so far, is one or more of those announcements coming soon? It looks like the definitive answer to that is … maybe?
FloBraska hashtag sparks speculation Nebraska secured a Sunshine State star
Simpson and the other Nebraska football coaches tend to send out smoke signals with celebratory posts on X when they do land a commit. This particular signal seems to indicate the player that gave the Huskers is from the Sunshine State. Simpson posted a picture of Rick Ross dancing in an NU jersey with the hashtag flobraska. So what Florida player might the Huskers have locked down?
It turns out there are several candidates from the weekend. The first is defensive back CJ Bronaugh who has actually been a commit to Nebraska since November. However, he’s been looking around quite a bit and Matt Rhule and his staff have been working overtime to get him to shut his recruitment back down.
Rivals’ analyst Tim Verghese confirmed getting Bronaugh to shut things down again was a goal of having him visit Lincoln for the first time since he gave his pledge. Perhaps he told Simpson and the other coaches he was indeed solidifying things. Bronaugh is notably from Winter Garden, Florida.
Another option could be a new plege in Syracuse commit Kamron Wilson. Wilson, out of Miami, is considered quite flippable, though there is thought to be a fight between the Huskers and Florida State. Perhaps that flight is now over.
Of course, the biggest clue of all as to who it might could have come from a prospect’s son. Humberto Miret, father of 4-star offensive lineman Ryan Miret posted a tweet in response to Simpson’s keying on an update from Vergehese talking about the Florida prospects in town.
Miret, a teammate of Wilson’s at Miami Southridge was also in Lincoln and considered a Husker lean. Is it possible the Nebraska football team scored a two-for-one in Wilson and Miret? It seems likely we’ll find out sooner, rather than later.
