Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball star J’Shawn Unger has accepted an invitation to the 2026 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp. The summer schedule began with three days of exhibition doubleheaders, totaling six games from June 27-29 in Burlington and Cary, North Carolina, and Danville, Virginia.
After the six exhibition games, which are now nearly complete, the annual Stars vs. Stripes series will begin on June 30 at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Unger and his teams will then move on to the National Training Complex in Cary from July 1-3, and the series will return to Segra Stadium July 4 for the finale.
Unger was one of the premier closers in the Big Ten and the rare bright spot on the Nebraska Cornhuskers bullpen. The hurler finished the season ranked fifth nationally with 13 saves in 2026, which is tied for third-most in a season by a Husker pitcher in program history. The right-hander also posted a 6-1 record and a 4.05 ERA in 40 innings across 25 relief appearances. He struck out 39 batters and limited opposing hitters to a .203 batting average in 2026.
Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball star mulls fifth season of eligibility
With the recent changes to the college eligibility rules that give players five years to play five, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team has some interesting questions in front of it. There are several Huskers who believed they entered 2026 with their eligibility set to expire. For players like Andi Jackson, this was supposed to be the last ride. Now she and teammates Bergen Reilly and Harper Murray, among others, suddenly know they’ll be allowed to play in 2027, should they want to do so.
Jackson was asked earlier this week whether she plans to take advantage of the extra year in college. While she didn’t say for sure she planned to do so, she admitted she is thinking about the situation and is open to the idea. It seems unlikely Jackson won’t deliver a final answer to the Nebraska Cornhuskers until after the 2026 campaign.

Since the Nebraska football team is on a recruiting tear the likes of which it has rarely seen, especially this early in the year, it looks like the staff is looking to cash in on its momentum by going after Texas A&M commit Chance Archangel. The 2028 EDGE is one of the best at his position, and the late entry into the race seems to be a sign that the Huskers believe they have a chance.
The Nebraska football team is on an incredible recruiting heater this month and it has defensive backs coach Addison Williams and offensive line coach Geep Wade to thank for quite a bit of its success. The pair have been on such a tear that they’re both ranked in the Top 10 nationally among recruiters. Williams ranks third in the nation overall according to 247Sports while Wade ranks eighth.
Matt Rhule recently discussed what he believes is the next step for the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they look to gain more respect and achieve greater success on the field. He said his goal in 2026 is to get the team back to where opponents fear it.
