While the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team gets to sit and rest and recuperate this weekend, one former Husker quarterback used Friday night to stage a bit of a comeback.

Jeff Sims' Husker career was nothing short of disastrous. However, the former Georgia Tech transfer was by all accounts, a good guy. Someone NU fans and former players could root for to find success, even if it wasn't in Lincoln.

After the 2023 season, Sims transferred to Arizona State and has served as the Sun Devils' backup quarterback. On Friday night, he entered ASU's game against the Utah Utes after starter Sam Leavitt went down with an injury.

While Sims didn't play long, he did have an impactful 2-yard touchdown run and also completed 1-of-2 passes for 13 yards. More importantly for Sims and Arizona State, he didn't turn the ball over and his new team pulled off a big 27-19 upset to improve to 5-1 and possibly knock the Utes out of the running for the Big 12 title.

Sims' performance for an upstart ASU team is a feel good story for a man who has had an up and up and down college football career. It's hard not to hope the Sun Devils can keep winning and the former Nebraska Cornhuskers football star will help.

Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball rallies for massive win

There were several moments on Friday night when it looked like John Cook's squad was going to be upended by 10th ranked Purdue. Had that happened, it would have meant the end of a 34 match home winning streak, tied for the nation's longest current streak.

Instead, NU rallied from down 2-sets-to-1 to take the Boilermakers in the fifth set (25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 17-15). They kept their home winning streak going nad improved it to 35 consecutive matches. They kept their winning streak going this season after an upset loss to SMU.

They're now at 12 straight matches this season. And even more impressively, six straight wins over Top 25 teams and five straight over Top 15 schools.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team hasn't been perfect this season obviously, but they keep showing they're one of the best squads in the country. Now they just need to avoid a letdown after that emotional win as they face off against the Big Ten worst Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday night.
