Former Nebraska Football quarterback eyes potential move to Big 12
Is former Nebraska Football and Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims finally about to find a new home? There is at least movement in an area that has been weirdly quiet since Sims entered the transfer portal.
Sims announced he was leaving the Nebraska Football team just a few weeks after the Huskers' season came to an end. It was hardly a surprising decision, considering he started the year as the starting quarterback, lost the job about halfway through the season, and then was sporadic at best whenever the chance to retake the job presented itself.
Late Monday night, almost four months after Jeff Sims entered the portal, a potential landing spot materialized. 247Sports’ Chris Karpman reported that the former Nebraska Football signal-caller visited Arizona State.
“Senior Nebraska QB transfer Jeff Sims is currently visiting ASU, I've learned. Great size,” Karpman wrote. “Impressive athlete and arm talent but struggled with turnovers in a few games last season. Before that, he was a three-year starter at Georgia Tech. He has 31 career TD passes and 29 INTs”
Former Nebraska Football quarterback could be making a move to the Big 12
If you’re a Husker fan, I’m sure some sense of deja vous passed over you when reading the scouting report for Jeff Sims that Karpman offered. There’s never been a doubt that Sims is a good athlete and had a good arm. That arm, especially had Cornhuskers coaches and fans excited for the 2023 season.
It’s the “struggled with turnovers” that feels like a massive understatement, even if it’s entirely accurate. He indeed struggled with turnovers. To a degree that it seemed he almost had to be suffering from “the yips.”
It’s almost a certainty that Jeff Sims could use a fresh start. He could use a change of scenery. Arizona State could use a veteran quarterback after former highly touted freshman Jaden Rashada decided to enter the transfer portal himself.
There was never a question that Jeff Sims is a good guy. He was a great teammate even when he lost his job. Its hard not to root for him. It would be easier to root for him if he does it somewhere at Arizona State. So here’s hoping he lands with the Sun Devils and lights up the Big 12.
