Jeff Sims might be moving on from Nebraska football, but after Saturday, he's officially moving on as a college graduate. For some people, it's a right of passage. For the Huskers former QB1, it's somethign that means quite a bit more because he's the first member of his family to go get that college degree.

Sims took to X (formerly Twitter) to reflect on his feelings shortly after he walked across the stage. Along with the post he showed a picture dressed to the nines in the traditional cap and gown.

"Went through so much to get here It’s all kind of surreal to me, I thank the Lord everyday for gettin me to this point and for the blessings ahead of me in this next chapter," he wrote. "Thank you Nebraska I’m a officially a First Gen College Graduate."

The graduation makes the end of what has been a wild ride for the former Georgia Tech quarterback. He came to Lincoln thinking he was going to lead the Huskers to a bowl for first time in years. Things took a hard turn almost right away and by the end of the season, he wasn't even the backup.

Nebraska football quarterback is first of his family

Through all the ups and downs, one thing has been true for Sims. He's handled everything with class and dignity. He's also tried to be a leader, even when he wasn't on the field. There's a reason he was one of the few Nebraska football players who was allowed to wear single digit jerseys.

Anyone who watched him root on and try to help his teammates when he was out with an injury knows that it wasn't an act, and his single digit wasn't about trying to pretend he was a leader. Sims was a seemingly great teammate while he was here.

Jeff Sims may not have everything he joined the Nebraska football program for, but as he leaves, he takes the first college degree in his family with him. And no one can take it away from him.
