Just ahead of the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team starting its Big Ten schedule, Fred Hoiberg’s squad is sitting pretty when it comes to making the Big Dance. While the Huskers have a long way to go this season, it looks right now as though  NU would get into the NCAA Tournament if the season ended today.

The Huskers are sitting pretty in part because of a blowout win to close out its non-conference schedule. Following a 34-point win over Southern, Hoiberg’s squad jumped quite a ways in the NET Rankings.

Despite the Jaguars not being considered a top opponent, the Nebraska Cornhuskers still managed to jump 8 spots in the NET and are now sitting at No. 38 and while that’s not a guarantee that they’ll get into the tourney, it is a very good marker. Being that high, especially since they’ve spent most of the season around that mark, is a big positive.

Nebraska Cornhuskers improve their postseason chances

This jump in the NET follows what was one of the first Bracket projections of the season. NU was predicted to be a No. 10 seed and would take on No. 7 Oklahoma.

All of this adds up to very good news for a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that wants to get to the Big Dance for the second year in a row. With a team that is already halfway to 20 wins, they’ll have a chance to do just that. A win over a Top 20 UCLA squad later this week would go a long way towards doing that as well.
