The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team has certainly not had the kind of season either they, or their fans were hoping for. However, things could be looking up and turning around.
The Huskers completed a 3-game series with the Maryland Terapins on Sunday afternoon in rather emphatic fashion. After losing the first game of the series on Friday, they won on Saturday 7-2 and then left absolutely no doubt on Sunday, winning in seven innings, 21-5.
The series win was bigger than it might look at first glance, as it allowed the Nebraska Cornhuskers to keep pace in a way that allows them to stay in the running for the Big Ten tournament. With 17 teams in the conference (no Wisconsin), only 12 will actually get to make the postseason. Sitting at 9-12 in conference, they are currently in a four way tie and sitting at 11th after the tiebreakers.
The good news is that of the final three series of the season, two are against teams below NU in the standings (Minnesota and Purdue) and the third, next weekend against Michigan is at home.
Nebraska Cornhuskers softball keeps rolling
The No. 18 Nebraska softball team is having a much better season than Will Bolt’s squad is. Jordy Bahl and company won a weekend series against Washington with a Sunday shutout (6-0) victory.
Sitting at 35-12 and 14-5 in the Big Ten, the Huskers softball team knows it’s headed to the Big Ten tourney and then it just might be hosting a regional. Also unlike baseball, there is just one more weekend series until the postseason starts. They’ll finish up against a Maryland team that is currently 16th in the conference standings and has won 3 B1G games all season.
Ohio State’s insane run
Nebraska might have only had two players drafted, but the Huskers certainly know where they want to get to. The Ohio State Buckeyes had 14 players drafted this past weekend. That was one shy of an NCAA record.
CharMar Brown
It’s not totally clear where the Nebraska Cornhuskers sit when it comes to landing portal running back CharMar Brown out of North Dakota State. The Omaha native appears to be deciding between Matt Rhule’s squad and Miami, but despite pulling out all the stops this weekend, there’s no indication when he might pull the trigger on a commitment or where he’s leaning.
