Nebraska fans found themselves suddenly worried about losing a Husker recruit that they thought was with them for the long haul. Four-star quarterback Trae Taylor was the first commit of the 2027 class for Matt Rhule and Nebraska, and has been instrumental in helping get other recruits to Lincoln.

The longtime recruit, though, gave fans a huge scare when it was reported last week that Ohio State was making a big push to flip Taylor's commitment. This came as a big shock to fans, wondering if the one kid who has repeatedly spoken about how excited he is to be a Cornhusker could potentially leave for what would have probably been a nice NIL deal from the Buckeyes.

It was also reported that Ohio State was in this so much that they were putting together a deal for Taylor and talking with him extensively about their plans for him in the offense. Every Nebraska fan, though, can take a collective sigh of relief with Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong's latest update.

Trae Taylor is talking to other coaches but plans to stay a Nebraska Cornhusker

The news of Ohio State trying to flip Taylor was shocking to say the least, but there was hope in the fact that the four-star quarterback was going to stay loyal to the Huskers. Wiltfong has confirmed that hope, saying that Taylor is going to keep the communication lines open so as not to burn any bridges, but he is locked in at Nebraska.

"In a nutshell, he said he's not going to burn any bridges with these other coaches, but that he is a Husker, he's a Cornhusker," Wiltfong said of Taylor.

Taylor is not the typical run-of-the-mill recruit who makes his commitment and just comes and goes. Taylor has been active for Nebraska on the recruiting trail, talking with other recruits, showing them everything that Nebraska has to offer.

The four-star recruit has been very active in the recruitment of close friend Ahmad Hudson, the five-star tight end Nebraska has been after for quite some time, who will be picking between Nebraska and LSU soon. Taylor has also been to every single major recruiting weekend for the Huskers, getting to know more and more about the program and working to get guys to commit.

It is smart and makes sense that Taylor wouldn't burn any bridges and keep communication open with other coaches, but it still can worry fans and Rhule all the same. While Taylor reportedly had meaningful conversations with Ohio State, he assured Nebraska he isn't going anywhere.

Taylor is so locked in that he is moving to Omaha for his senior year of high school to be closer to the Nebraska football program and begin to create as many relationships as possible so he can come in and be an impact player right away. That is true commitment.

Ohio State probably won't just turn and walk away from Taylor after this update, but this has to make Nebraska fans and probably Rhule, feel a lot better going forward.
