One of the most interesting things to watch unfold this spring is that the players that left the Nebraska football program in the portal, are getting Power 4 landing spots. That hasn’t always been the case and it might already be a sign of how Matt Rhule and company have boosted the talent level in Lincoln with Ian Flynt being the latest.

Flynt arrived as a tight end out of Texas back when Rhule and his staff were hitting the Lone Star State harder than any other part of the country. Earlier this year, the Huskers tried to move him from offense to defense, making him a defensive lineman. Perhaps because of that decision, the Texas native decided to move on and has now found his next team.

how Ian Flynt’s position switch led to his transfer from Nebraska to NC State

On Saturday, Flynt announced he’d move from the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the North Carolina State Wolfpack. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Flynt announced his commitment shortly after taking an visit to the school.

Prior to signing with the Huskers, Flynt caught six passes for 140 yards as a senior for Katy (Texas) Taylor and thrived as a blocker. As a junior at Taylor, Flynt recorded 10 receptions for 129 yards and two scores. Due to his efforts, he earned all-district honor both seasons.

Now he joins an NC State team that certainly isn’t short on talent at the offensive position. He’s the second portal tight end addition of the offseason, joining Elon transfer Cody Hardy. Flynt and Hardy, join Justin Joly, Dante Daniels and Gus Ritchey as the scholarship tight ends on the Wolfpack roster.

Flynt joins Grant Seagren in finding a new Power conference home in the last week after leaving the Nebraska football program during spring practice. Seagren recently committed to transfer to the Oklahoma State Cowboys where he hopes to lead Mike Gundy’s squad’s resurgence in the Big 12 after an abysmal 2024 season.
