Now that spring practice is over, the Nebraska football team is waiting to see just how many players have officially entered the portal and who will be looking for greener pastures. Of course, it’s more that the fans will be sitting and waiting.

The transfer portal for football officially closed on Friday, so anyone who “enters” the portal at this point has been there for a while, and they just finally announced it. Of course, graduate students can enter the portal whenever they’d like so it is possible there will  be some guys popping up afer this initial wave.

Speaking of that wave, despite the fact that at some point either this year or next that the Nebraska football team will need to get down to 105 players and are currently over 120, the Huskers really haven’t had a ton of players leave.

D'Andre Barnes

Barnes was the first Husker to enter the portal when it opened this spring. The defensive back didn’t see much action since coming to Lincoln but did play in NU’s win over UTEP at the start of the 2024 season. The redshirt sophomore holds three years of eligibility left.

David Borchers

Borchers was a versatile offensive lineman in high school, lining up at offensive guard and nose tackle. He started his Husker career as an offensive lineman but moved to the defensive line last year. He did not appear in a game for Nebraska.

Ian Flynt

Flynt arrived in Lincoln as a much ballyooed tight end, but couldn’t find his way onto the field on the offensive side of the ball. Like Barnes, Flynt appeared in one game against UTEP last season. He was moved over to defensive line this spring but is now gone.

Evan Taylor

Taylor was a two-way player for Cuthbertson High School in North Carolina but he was strictly a cornerback for the Huskers. He redshirted last season and did not appear in a game.

Nico Ottomanelli

The kicker’s departure from Nebraska might have been the loudest considering family members made it very clear that he did not really want to leave. Still, he was the third kicker on the team and when they get down to 105 players they’ll have to make roster decisions like this.

Hayes Miller

Miller played one season at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas before transferring to Nebraska. He caught three passes for 30 yards in his lone season as a Raven. Last year, he appeared in one game and redshirted.

Grant Seagren

Seagren came to Nebraska as a tight end, but put on around 70 pounds and moved to offensive line. Just hours after entering the portal, the former Nebraska football player was getting quite a few Power 4 offers.
