Nebraska might’ve let one slip and now he’s off to a rising Big 12 power

When Grant Seagren hit the transfer portal earlier this spring, more than a few people close to the Nebraska football program expressed a level of regret you don’t normally see for guys who haven’t really been contributors. However, it’s clear that Matt Rhule and the coaching staff believed he had a real chance of making an impact in 2025.

That Seagren is gone is one of those big questions in how Rhule and his staff are handling the roster. Is it that the offensive line is going to be that good this season? They did bring in quite a few transfers, including a former starter with national runner-up Notre Dame, Rocco Spindler. But did they bring in too many transfers?

Former Nebraska football player Grant Seagren chooses Oklahoma State over Big Ten teams

That question is one that won’t be answered until the fall. Here’s what those with Nebraska know today. Other teams think Seagren was good enough to get a ton of Power 4 offers. And now he’s chosen Oklahoma State as his next school.

OSU beat writer McClain Baxley reported on Thursday morning that Seagen picked the Cowboys over schools like Wisconsin and Kentucky. It seemed the longer the offensive lineman was in the portal, the more big name schools came calling.

Because of that, Nebraska has to be happy he won’t be sticking in the Big Ten. If the Cornhuskers can’t have him, at least no conference rivals will either.

The 6-foot-6, 305 pound lineman out of Oakland, Nebraska will now get to really show what he can do after playing in 7 games in 2024, but looking like he wasn’t going to be starter for Rhule’s squad.
