The Nebraska football team has started a new tradition of sorts in the last few years. They’ve competed with other also-rans teams for “offseason national champions.”

There’s quite a bit of hype about quite a bit of things that may or may not matter once the fall rolls around. Some people might look to dismiss good signs in the spring because of the competition for the offseason national champions. However, sometimes there are comments or actions that stand out and make the eyebrows raise quite impressively.

Such were the comments that started surfacing earlier this week from new Nebraska football offensive lineman Rocco Spindler. While he didn’t say it out for the public to be quoted and obsessed over, a report that started with On3 and then began flying all over social media should make Husker fans very happy. Spindler said that he believes NU has more talent right now than his former Notre Dame squad did last year.

Nebraska football star says new team has more talent than national runner-up

To be clear, Spindler is saying that the Huskers have more talent than the Notre Dame team that went to the National Title game. It was a team that after a very bad start, gave Ohio State everything it could handle in the second half.

Of course, on that note, maybe he’s not that far off. After all, the Huskers also gave the Buckeyes all they could handle last season.

The report went on to say that Spindler told his new teammates that the difference between Notre Dame and Nebraska is that the Huskers have to learn to trust their abilities. That when they do, that will get them over the hump and allow the team to start winning.

Spindler might be right. As has been the key for the last few years, the Nebraska football team needs to find the way to hit the switch. Maybe the former Fighting Irish star can show them how.
