After spending most of Saturday worried that the Nebraska football team might only see one player taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ty Robinson was officially joined by tight end Thomas Fidone.
In the process of selecting the former Husker in the 7th round, the New York Giants got a guy who’s career took some serious hits thanks to two separate knee injuries. However, Fidone had been showing some athletic ability in the lead up to the draft that made NFL teams giving him a second and third look.
Nebraska tight end Thomas Fidone gets NFL shot with New York Giants
The former Nebraska football star will likely enter his NFL career as someone who will be the guy looked to block more than catch passes. However, he does have the hands that could make him a weapon down the middle, once he gets his feet under him.
I've been a big fan of Thomas Fidone in this process. Injuries derailed his career early on but he showed NFL worthy athleticism and has the traits to carve out a nice NFL career. Like this pick for the #Giants. https://t.co/64daknNoEP

Coming out of high school, Fidone was a a higher ranked prospect than Georgia great Brock Bowers but he never got to really show what he could do in Lincoln for various reasons.
Those two knee injuries, as well as coaching changes and scheme adjustments made it hard for him to really put up the kind of numbers that might have gotten him to go earlier in the draft.
He did still haul down 25 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns for a Huskers offense that was among the worst in college football in 2023 as Matt Rhule and company tried desperately to find a quarterback.
In 2024, he caught 36 passes for 373 yards but couldn’t find the end zone. This past season, there might not have been an offensive player not named Dylan Raiola who was hampered more by starting the year with a subpar offensive coordinator. That error was only changed when Dana Holgorsen was brought in at the end of the campaign.
There was a hope around the Nebraska football program that Fidone might decide to come back for one more season. It’s likely those early injuries played a part in him deciding to declare for the draft instead.
