As Friday night rolled on in the NFL Draft, the running joke on social media among Nebraska football fans was that Ty Robinson might get selected before Shedeur Sanders. That joke just became a reality.

While the fourth round of the draft rolls on, and the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback continues to be available, the Huskers' defensive lineman is officially off the board. It’s worth pointing out that Robinson was listed as one of the best players who was still available coming into Saturday and more than a few mock drafts had him getting picked a round earlier.

Ty Robinson gives Nebraska football a long-awaited NFL Draft win

In that regard, the Philadelphia Eagles got an NFL Draft steal when they took the Nebraska football star with the No. 111 pick overall. He is of course, the first Cornhusker to get selected but his getting taken this early in the fourth round could mean that there will be several teammates getting taken sooner rather than later.

For one, Husker teammate Thomas Fidone was also among those who the best available as Day 3 kicked off. Tight ends have also been a popular commodity so far in the early going. Considering he’s someone that is big and speedy for his size, it’s hardly out of the realm of possibility.

Tommi Hill is the real dark horse of the draft for Nebraska. Once a possible first-round selection, injuries this past season tanked his prospects. Is it possible he’ll be a sixth or seventh-round choice? It seems at least possible.

Robinson’s selection also breaks a rather embarrassing drought for the Cornhuskers. They did not have a single player get drafted in 2024 so the defensive lineman was first man taken in two years. That Thursday and Friday came and went without an NU player taken off the board, there were likely some nerves and some confusion in Lincoln.

Now the Nebraska football team can take a deep breath and just see what happens next.
