Dylan Raiola aiming to be secret weapon in Nebraska football OL portal recruiting

With some late entries into the portal by talented offensive linemen, it looks like the Nebraska football QB is lending a helping hand.

The Nebraska football team has made no secret about the fact that it would like to land at least one more offensive linemen ahead of next season. Unfortunately, it’s hard a surprising lack of success considering the program entered the offseason with OT being its top position of need, perhaps just ahead of wide receiver.

The team did add one player in former Alabama offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett, but it’s clear Matt Rhule and company aren’t content to stop there. However, their most recent obvious target, Shiyazh Pete chose Kentucky instead of NU.

This week, with Notre Dame and Ohio State officially finishing the regular season, several Irish offensive linemen entered the portal. And it looks as though Nebraska football is at least testing the waters with interior offensive lineman Rocco Spindler. And the Huskers are using quarterback Dylan Raiola as a secret weapon.

Nebraska football QB1 going after offensive lineman

When Sam Pendleton hit the portal, there was an outside chance the Huskers were joining the fray. However, he almost immediately picked the Tennessee Volunteers. That leaves Rocco Spindler as the best Irish lineman currently in the portal and available.

Not only is he available, but on Friday, Huskers’ quarterback Dylan Raiola ramped things up a bit as he and Spindler started following each other on social media.

While this is far from a tried and true sign that the Huskers are going to get a commit, it does tend to be the first step in the recruiting process. Now it’s all about follow through. And figuring out if Spindler would really be interested in coming to Lincoln.

Talk around the offensive lineman has been that Michigan might be a front runner here. Some might be surprised that the Notre Dame star would look at a rival program, but the IOL hails from Michigan. It’s also worth pointing out that said rivalry isn’t one that means as much for the current generation of players as the two schools no longer play each other every year. And haven’t since Spindler started school.

Spindler also doesn’t totally fit the Huskers’ bill as he’s an interior lineman rather than a tackle. However, it’s worth pointing out that Nebraska football could make it work considering that the program lost its starting center and the backup has never started a college game. While tackle has been the focus, getting either a center or guard and moving Justin Evans to center should be on the table.
