Quite a bit is expected of James Palmer Jr. this season. The Nebraska basketball star has been named as one who could be among the best in the country.

Big things are expected of the Nebraska basketball team this season. If they are going to attain their goals, they are going to need James Palmer Jr. to be the kind of impact player he was a year ago. At least one expert believes there’s a very good chance that could happen.

Andy Staples wrote a piece for NCAA.com laying out who believes are going to be the big impact seniors this coming season. Palmer made the list as one of the top candidates in all of the country.

Palmer ranked number seven on Staples list and the man who has covered college basketball for a number of outlets including ESPN thinks the transfer from Miami could stand out as the best player in a loaded Big Ten.

More from Nebraska Basketball

“Palmer came back to lead the Huskers to the NCAA tournament. He has the goods and the help. Palmer could also be in contention for Big Ten player of the year. The Big Ten senior class is loaded, and Palmer is one of the many who can compete for the top honor.”

Staples isn’t kidding when he says the Big Ten senior class is loaded. While Palmer ranks seventh, there are two other Big Ten seniors on the list ahead of the guard.

Ethan Happ of Wisconsin is at the top of the list. Happ was certainly an impact player against Nebrasketball, scoring 19 and 25 points in the two matchups between the two schools.

Palmer rose to the occasion in those games as well, scoring 18 and 28 against the Badgers. Indiana’s Juwan Morgan is the number two player on Staples’ list.

Interestingly, Morgan had a good overall season last year averaging 16.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, but he was largely bottled up in the Nebraska basketball team’s only game against the Hoosiers. Morgan scored just 13 points, to go along with nine rebounds. James Palmer Jr countered with 15 points and four rebounds in the Huskers’ 66-57 victory.
